Ian Poulter was generally pleased with his five-under-par first round performance at The Players Championship, but admitted he missed a number of chances to improve his score.
The Englishman is well placed but felt he could have scored even better, particularly after setting himself up well on the par-five holes at TPC Sawgrass.
“I played really well today, but if I was to analyse today’s round … I’ve left a three or four shots on the golf course,” he told Setanta Golf.
Speaking about missed opportunities on par-fives on Thursday, Poulter said: “With my short game I was expecting to make birdies on those holes, but I didn’t, which is a same.”
Poulter, however, is bullish about his chances of success this weekend.
